as of wednesday jan7th do not bother searching 'courtney bass' on facebook because you will not find me ! after much prayerful thought i have decided to get rid of it for this semester ... many people have asked why and i said that there are too many to name so i would just blog it later. and now that i left my book in athens and am in an empty apartment with no guitar i decided instead of getting on facebook i could let you know why im getting rid of it. and know that im not saying you should get rid of your facebook now, facebook is awesome ! first of all, do you have any idea how much time is wasted on facebook? really, there were tons of things i had planned to do over my break but didnt get to them because every free moment i had i was on facebook. if i spent half as much time reading my bible than i did on facebook i would have felt way better about the way i spent my break. second, too much information! i really love the way bluefish tv put it ...
its the truth , no i dont put that information on there but others do and i really dont want to see all of it. and when it comes to people you dont know , it doesnt really matter if you mean to, you can just start clicking on peoples pictures and wind up seeing pictures of a million people that you dont even know and really, why are you looking at their pictures? you just wasted 30 minutes.
third, i have things i want to get done this semester. goals and desires. all will come much sooner if i eliminate facebook from the mix. i want to read more of the bible and some of the fuller library. i want to learn more of God and encounter him and worship him through everything this semester. i want to get better at the guitar, i want to learn. i want good grades. i study a lot but we will see if studying - facebook will = better grades. learning , thats the key word. and facebook does not help me with this at all. actually , God's shown me that its having the opposite affect, so i need to eliminate it.
finally, i want to point it out that i dont think everyone should delete their facebook now, i think facebook rocks and i love it, i just need to do without for some time. i just want to point out this.... how many of you that have facebook have ever said that facebook is addicting? or youve heard it tons of times? ... "its addictive" "im addicted" "its so addicting !" really??? when did the word addiction become a good word? if you heard someone say " he has an addiction" you would think drugs , alcohol, or porn or something like that. now , have you ever hear someone say they are addicted to the Bible? i want to be. and i really think that if you use the term and its not concerning something spiritual to help you grow, then its probably not the best for you. thats just my thoughts on it.
i'm getting rid of it for this semester for these reasons and because I feel like thats what God wants me to do right now. Kind of fasting from facebook. Ill get it back when summer starts so i can keep in touch with friends but i think that after this time without i will not waste so much of my time on there later. i'm excited for this little adventure. life without facebook? oh i never thought the day would come ! im going to miss it terribly, and thats exactly why i need to get rid of it ! :)
