ha you're not broke, be quiet

If you ever talk to someone who has just gotten back from a mission trip to another country one thing you will for sure hear them say is that "we have so much, and they have so little". That is always the thing that strikes people. The fact that they have so little and yet have such joy and contentment. It makes us realize how lucky and rich we really are.
The thing is, we come back to the states and forget about it.
The first few months when I got back from Central America this summer for some reason this culture just annoyed me. I dont know any better words to describe it. I was annoyed, aggrivated, aggitated, ... So i prayed about it, and got over it.
For some reason these past few weeks I have been getting annoyed again. I feel like I have been back here for so long i'm getting back to the routine of this culture, and i dont want to.
I'm always listening to friends say that they don't have the money to do something or hear people say , "i'm broke!". You're broke? Really? So you're living on the side of the road with nothing to eat? .. Dont think so. ... How has "i'm broke" turned into meaning , i can afford zaxbys and rent but i can't pay to go on that trip so "i'm broke" , really?? YOURE RICH !
Yesterday I was remembering how excited I was to get my cellphone in Guatemala. Haha TIGO! ...

haha we were so excited to get those phones! you can probably compare that phone to the old school nokia you use to play snake on ! but we were so excited that we could store numbers and actually text that we were completely happy with it ! ... now, my texts dont send on time so i need a new phone. .... yeh right. I get a new phone in march but i can wait till then! If i'm worried about money for our trips this summer, why do i need to spend money on a new phone? I was planning on getting a nicer phone this time, i always get the ones that are like 99 cents after rebates and what not, so i decided this time i can spend money on it. No thanks, i've changed my mind. See! I'm getting back to this culture! I dont need a super sweet phone! If i can call people then thats awesome enough!! Anddd !! I have unlimited texting !! Whoa ! That should make me so excited! And it does! Yay for unlimited texting !
I have a friend who dropped their phone in water the other day, and bought a new phone first thing the next day. Oh the thought of a week without a cell phone.
Really though, where you are sitting right now I want you to look to the left and to the right. How bout right in front of you? See how rich you are ? Pshh , you have a computer!
To the right of me are two text books, both of which probably cost about $100 each if not more. The thought that i'm using them for education at a university, wow. And a starbucks coffee, think of the people who have never gotten to taste that deliciousness of a java chip frappachino!
To the left of me is a water, a bottle of ibuprofen, a notebook, and nutter butter bites. Just from buying whats to the left of me I have spent more money than what a majority of people in the world will make in a week's time. Think about that.
It's sad to me that we have to go to another country to realize what we have.
We're rich.
